Jay Leno interviewed President Obama last night. This was the first time a current US President has appeared on a late night comedy show. Very exciting. Obama totally gets it. Filling out his NCAA brackets. Shooting hoops. Dancing at parties. He’s basically the coolest guy in the world.

The interview was going great. Obama was his charismatic self - smooth talking, making people laugh, while also delivering a serious message about our economy. But the record scratched when he compared his bowling skills to “the Special Olympics or something.”

Granted, everyone makes stupid mistakes. If I had a nickel for every stupid thing I’ve said in the past 10 years, I’d be writing this from my golden heliyacht (that’s half helicopter, half golden boat).

But I’m not the President. And for the first time, I saw a chink in his armor.

This is just like one of those typical Bush moments that would end up in Letterman’s highlight reel. Then I’d think to myself “How did we elect such an idiot.”

Except this wasn’t Bush. This is a man that we have the highest expectations for. Until Barack Obama, I’ve never had “my President” - a President that I helped elect into office.

When something like this happens, it stings a little deeper because I voted for him. My right-winged Dad or Uncle will mention this to me - the way I ripped on them about Bush - and I’ll have nothing to say.

The media should eat this up. It should be talked about and written about everywhere. It will be interesting to see if the media’s obsession with Obama will curb their editorial voice on this one.
